Advanced Studio V: Coney Island: Four Paradoxes, Four Opportunities!

paradox: New York turns its back on the sea
paradox: We search for escape but look down on old-style 'fun'
paradox: We live in boring apartments in predictable surroundings
paradox: We're scared to mix & invent typologies for 21st century

Look at Coney: sea, boardwalk, funny goings-on, funny patches of land, new ways to escape, a proper Aquarium, more sport, workout. Think: Muscle Beach California, urban fun-mat, helter-skelter pre-digital diagram in wood.

These paradoxes are opportunities. In this studio, students turned them upside down to cheer up the outer fringes of Brooklyn, and had fun doing so.
