Assignment #1
Red Blue Chair, Gerrit Rietveld, 1923
Red Blue Chair Parametrically Modeled in Catia.
Construction geometry shown in hidden space. Most of the physical geometry is either extruded volumes or thickened surfaces.
The chair is controllable by two parameters. One adjusts the horizontal depth of the chair. The arm rest is built as a ratio to the seat depth, so as the seat gets longer, the arm rests get proportionally longer (or shorter.) The other parameter adjusts the height of the outter legs.
The Red Blue Chair becomes a lounge chair.
Adjust the outter chair legs to get the "adjustible bed" setup.
Adjust both parameters to shrink the chair from an easy chair to a dinner table chair.
Assignment #2
Radiolarian Skeleton with Power Copies
This is the base state of the radiolarian skeleton. It is similar to the one that I produced earlier in the semester, but this one is built much more cleanly, and has the surfaces, fully fractal logic, and analytical sets built in to the base powercopy.
The "stem ratio" parameter controls the growth rate of the skeleton.
The "radius ratio" allows the diameter of the members to adjust; it is a ratio relating to the length of the segment.
The "angle ratio" controls the profile of the center aperature. It is related to the base angles of the unit module.
With regard to that base angle, the left and right arms of the base module can be controlled independently. In this case, only the left halves are adjusted.
In this case, both the right and left sides are adjusted equally.
This is a view of the base geometry for the skeleton. The blue lines are part of the analytical set, but are not required for the contruction sequence. The red lines are the basis for growing the skeleton with the automated knowledge pattern.
Assignment #3
Radiolarian Skeleton Analysis in Robot
This is an isolated view of the analytical set, prepared for use with Catbot 2.3.
Base Structure, analyzed in Robot. Becuase this is a "2D" structure, it is only stable in one axis. However, adding depth would allow it to be stable.
Deflected shape of structure.
Maps on bars for X-Axis stress.
Assignment #4
Acting on Radiolarian Skeleton with a Loop
