Tutorial 6: Importing E00 Files into ArcGIS

.e00 is a text-based interchange file format that can be converted into a GIS coverage file. Many data sources online offer .e00 files for download because they are more portable than conventional GIS file formats, and ArcGIS 9 has a handy tool for the conversion.

Converting .e00 to Coverage :

1. Open ArcCatalog.

2. The ArcToolbox has a convenient conversion tool to allow you to import an .e00 file as a coverage. You can access it by either navigating to the tool in the Toolbox's "Favorites" tree (shown on the left) or finding it in the Toolbox's "Index" (shown on the right).

3. After selecting the tool, a dialogue like the one below will appear.

Using the Folder buttons at the right, navigate to the location of your interchange file under "Input Interchange File." Similarly, you can navigate to where you want to save the new coverage file under "Output Dataset."

Click "OK." Your new coverage file will be created and ready for your use.
