Core Studio II: Olivier Touraine - Hudson Yard Development

Core Studio I: Olivier Touraine - Urban “Lobby-ing”: Fulton Street Visitor and Transit Centre

Using downtown New York City as our design laboratory, the mandate for the project for Core Studio I is intended to initiate a process of design research with an emphasis on conceptualization and abstraction as a means of generating architectural strategies. The studio will be framed around the proposition that architecture be understood as a set of relationships rather than as an autonomous object. Toward that end, the studio will explore ways of producing architectural interventions based on an understanding of the city as a field of dynamic, cross-referential linkages and interfaces. The focus of the studio will be on the relationship between structure and membrane.

Core Studio III: Olivier Touraine - Housing

Compactness: The studio will be concerned with extreme efficiency in terms of space use. Scarcity is usually ruling the world of Housing, especially for low income housing, and in the future will be more and more. It is a matter of Optimizations.
