Real Estate Development Practicum

A leading innovation in professional development education, the RED Practicum combines instruction in the principles and processes of real estate development, with a development studio in which students learn to explore and depict development issues and strategies in three-dimensional and graphic format.  By pairing the study of real estate fundamentals with a development studio, students gain a basic design facility, which they use to practice site planning and zoning analysis, develop an understanding of building typologies, and broaden their design vision and vocabulary.  This leads to a deeper understanding of the relationship between the business of real estate development and the act of designing a building.  Our students can think more creatively and comprehensively, because the Practicum provides them with the tools to test the physical fit of a potential development strategy, while at the same time, assessing its added value.
