Fabrication Lab General Information
Rules for Lab Use
The following rules apply to all students who use the lab facilities. Please be familiar with all of these regulations prior to operating any of the machines. Failure to adhere to these policies may result in expulsion from the lab.

LAB MAINTENANCE
- Upon visiting the Lab, hand your Columbia ID to the monitor on duty and discuss with them what you plan to do.
- Work performed in the lab must be course-related. Absolutely no commercial or personal projects are allowed.
- The CNC equipment is intended as a research source for full-scale prototyping and fabrication. Site-model making is discouraged and may be bumped for more appropriate work.
- If you don't know, please ask.
SAFETY
- Always use caution when operating machines.
- Always use ear and eye protection.
- Wear filter masks when necessary.
- Tie back long hair and loose clothing.
- No open-toed shoes.
- No loose jewelry.
- Do not operate industrial machinery when you are tired or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

LAB MAINTENANCE
- Under no circumstance should you attempt to fix any machine. Contact a Lab TA immediately if there are any mechanical problems.
- Contact a Lab TA with any software/file/toolpathing issues.
- Files left on the PCs can be deleted at any time. Back up your work.
- Return all tools that you use to their correct locations and in their original states.
- No scrap material or incomplete projects should be left in the lab. Materials left in the lab will be confiscated.
- Clean up after yourself - blow off machines, sweep the floor and throw away your trash.
