Studio II - Design Charrette

The goal of the design charrette is to put forth design proposals that result in combined works of architecture and urban design that enhance rather than diminish the historic resources the Studio seeks to protect. In order to do so the students will need to be clear about what makes these historic resources - either singly or in a group - significant, and to be clear about the aspects of new development that would impact these qualities that the Studio has identified as significant.

The Studio will be split into a number of teams, and each team will be responsible for creating a design proposal for a specific site. The teams will prepare a graphic (including a model), written, and oral presentation of their proposed design for their site. The presentation will address the students' analysis of the issues posed by an intervention on the site and how this intervention will impact the historic and aesthetic resources. The presentation will form an argument about the combined work resulting from the new design and test this argument against the statement of purpose.
