Appendix III: Design Charrette
Introduction The goal of the design charrette was to put forth design proposals which result in combined works of architecture and urban design that enhance rather than diminish the historic resources we are trying to protect. This year the design charrette took place March 26 through 28th. It resulted in resulted in six design proposals. These proposals were situated in each of the neighborhoods in the study area. Their scope ranged from residential to commercial and governmental incorporating a variety of adaptive reuse and new construction techniques. Each design team was required to produce significance statements, design briefs, architectural models and renderings. The charrette concluded with a juried presentation on March 29th. We have included materials from each team in order to depict the range of possibilities available to individuals embarking on a preservation oriented building program within the Harlem River area.
