Mission Statement

To research, interpret and reinforce a systematic understanding of teaching and learning environments, recognizing in their design the holistic interdependence of architectural and ecological elements for maximizing the knowledge generating potential of human organisms.

The mission statement above shall serve as the guide to activity of a proposed new research lab at the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.

Our immediate aim is to:

1. Add a distinctive and important new component to the literature and practice around the design of learning organizations, and

2. Update the potential for learning organizations to include ecological understandings of the costs and benefits of utilizing contemporary media and communications, given the increasingly integrated nature of learning and technology.
