NOTE: For Assignment 6 (final) see the 6th assignment page for special instructions on submitting your final project files within a named folder.
Follow these steps to submit your work, as well as one 50 x 50 pixel logo image which will be your icon: Read each assignment page for information on the required number of images.
1. When you have finished a model in form-Z, adjust the cone of vision to get the perspective you want, use the color palette and tool to apply different colors, and do a rendering with Display/Scan Line Render with shadow casting on. (For the rendering assignments, there will be special instructions.)
2. Go to the Option/Window Setup menu to turn off the grid lines and axes.
3. Under the File/Save As menu, select the PICT file format and save the image using your last name, first name, project name, and file type suffix, such as: jones.jane.logo.pict or jones.jane.froebel.pict or jones.jane.domino.pict or jones.jane.layers1.pict. Please use these standard names (logo, froebel, domino, layers1, layers2, layers3, curves1, curves2, etc.) to identify each assignment. Do not use any "funny" characters: no spaces, no UPPER CASE, no semi-colons, no under_bars, etc. If you do, your files will not be processed, but will be placed in the appropriate "rejected work" folder.
4. Save your PICT files on a floppy disk, or 270 MB SyQuest cartridge, as a backup. Remember that you are ultimately responsible for your own backups. The drop folder is not an archive, just a temporary transfer mechanism -- files are sometimes lost in the transfer to the Web site, so be ready to resubmit them if necessary. Do not submit "PICT" files, only "gif" files; please read on...
6. Open up Photoshop, and use File/Open to open your PICT image file.
7. Use the Cropping Brackets tool to crop the image, if necessary. (To do a 50 by 50 pixel logo, hold down the SHIFT key to insure a square crop.)
8. Go to Image/Image Size to reduce your assignment images to 640 x 480 pixels. It can be less, but not more. (Reduce a logo file to exactly 50 x 50 pixels.)
9. Go to Mode/Indexed Color to reduce the numbers of colors in the image. The file size will be reduced.
10. Use the File/Save As menu to save the image file in the Compuserve GIF format. Change the file suffix to "gif": jones.jane.logo.gif
11. Use the Chooser (under the apple) to open up Apple Share, and select the
New York file server. Log in as "temp" if your ID and password don't work.
Find the Classes/A4535 Drop folder and drag and drop your gif file
icon there. Feel free to submit more than one image for the
first two assignments, numbered as shown below. Your list of files
submitted must use the
standard naming convention:
jones.jane.logo.gif
jones.jane.froebel1.gif
jones.jane.froebel2.gif
jones.jane.froebel3.gif
...etc...
jones.jane.domino1.gif
jones.jane.domino2.gif
jones.jane.domino3.gif
...etc...
jones.jane.layers1.gif
jones.jane.layers2.gif
jones.jane.layers3.gif
...etc...
jones.jane.curves1.gif
jones.jane.curves2.gif
jones.jane.curves3.gif
...etc...
jones.jane.render1.gif
jones.jane.render2.gif
...etc...
Note: To check on the exact quantity and names of files that you have submitted, use the "VIEW SOURCE" option of Netscape as you look at your gallery page. See special instructions for submitting the final assignment (6).
12. If your work does not show up in the class directory within a few days, it is probably because you named it incorrectly, it was not saved as a "gif", it was not the right size, or it was dropped in the wrong folder. Check the "rejected work" folder and re-read the instructions carefully, then re-submit.
NOTE: For Assignment 6 (final) see the 6th assignment page for special instructions on submitting your final project files within a named folder.
