The Virtual World Classroom will officially be on display during the month of August, 1995. A group of over one hundred distinguished architects, historians, animators, artists, scholars, software developers, film-makers and media experts will be invited to visit the Web site and view the work on display. They will be encouraged to use the automatic email buttons whenever they see something deserving of comment. These messages will be forwarded to the individual student whose work is being discussed, and to the Virtual World Classroom mailbox. The commentary will be extracted and posted to form a permanent record of the ongoing discussion that the work has sparked.
Through the mechanism of access logs, we will be able to determine, and post, the names of the students whose work has been viewed the most frequently by non-Columbia people. This is of interest because it will show which logos and images attract an audience, and which do not, but it will have no bearing on the grades.
Comments can also be sent automatically to everyone in the class. See: Sending email to the entire VWC class and/or the TAs, and Instructors...
You may have noticed that we have taken certain editorial liberties with some of your work, due to space limitations. In some cases your work has been resized or cropped, and some images have been dropped, while others that we thought were your best have been highlighted. If you feel strongly that any of your best work is missing, or was compromised, please send us email right away. If you are interested in electronically publishing your own work in a format over which you have total artistic control, we encourage you to start your own homepage, and we will activate the "link" button to it, which you may have noticed at the top of your gallery page. To start your own homepage, read the instructions at the bottom of the Columbia University homepage. It's free and relatively easy...
Note that this class is truly "paperless". There is no requirement to submit anything on paper. There is, however, an urgent need for color work that can be submitted to various School-related "paper" publications. If you have work that you think should be published on paper, please contact us by email. Note: As we have announced in class, all work in this course must be specifically generated for the CAD class; do not submit work done for other classes or for studio.
