A4123 Structures II
Technology Requirement
Peter J. Galdi
INTRODUCTION
The course will address the following issues:
- Applications of structural design from Semester I
- Structural design and detailing of foundations
- Detailing of various structural systems
- Separation of various structural systems
- Design if structural masonry
- Analysis and design of portal frames in steel and concrete
- Design of reinforced concrete beams and columns
The course will also study the qualitative and quantitative aspects of the design and analytical processes, with appropriate examples taken predominantly from architecture and engineering. We will study this work through the use of slides and /or working drawings where applicable. Two field trips are planned. Homework assignments and quizzes will focus upon the structural design methods and issues in simplified but realistic form.
