Illinois Institute of Technology Campus Center
On this Mies van der Rohe designed campus, a new campus center building is currently the subject of an invited international competition.
Our studio will run parallel to the actual competition.
Excerpts from the brief:
"The Main Campus Master Plan hinges on the proposed new Campus Center. In order to attract and retain the best students, every campus needs a stimulating gathering place, one that fosters interaction among all segments of our community, offers broader horizons for technically oriented students, and locates key services and programs centrally and conveniently. This yet-to-be building should be easily accessible, have flexible, multi-purpose spaces, high tech and uniquely IIT, and offer a new architectural icon for the 21st century.
Located at 33rd and State streets, the geographic center of our acreage, the and urban vitality, and announce a renewed university to the city's inhabitants. This is recognizable a difficult site for such a building, but is full of potential for new directions in urban and campus planning. The new Campus Center is intended to link the academic west campus with the east campus and community of State Street."
